Team Kicks Year Off on April 9th

They will play approximately 17-23 games and have 8-12 practices before heading to Alberta.

The tournament field at the Brick includes: Toronto Bulldogs, Team Pennsylvania, CT. Yankees, Detroit Red Wings, Chicago Blackhawks, Team California, Vancouver Jr. Canucks, Team Alberta, Saskatchewan Jr. Pats, Winnipeg Jr. Jets, Toronto Pro Hockey, Minnesota Blades and the Montreal Ice Storm. The B’s will play 6 round robin games before playoffs start on Saturday, July 6.

The team will practice that week and then open with a scrimmage that Sunday (4.14) as well as the following Sunday (4.21) to help them prepare for the Toronto Invitational at the end of the month. The TI draws a strong field of teams that will include several other Brick teams.

They follow up the TI with a weekend in Walpole at the Blue Chip tournament over the May 10-12 weekend. The team will then take a few weeks off before gearing up in June and their preparation for the the trip to Edmonton at the end of the month.

In addition to 7-8 practices they will have a scrimmage with the CT. Yankees at NESC as well as play in the Icebreaker tournament (at NESC). Their final test will be a scrimmage at The Mall on June 30th against a yet to be determined Brick team. The Brick gets going with round robin play on Monday, July 1 and concludes with the championship game and jersey swap (pictured right) on Sunday, July 7.

The schedule for the Brick has yet

buy levitra 20mg

to be released but be sure to become a follower of the team on our FACEBOOK FAN PAGE and on TWITTER to be updated on the team’s progress throughout the spring.

“I am excited at the group we have put together,” coach Chris Masters commented. “As it is every year, it was a long, tough process to get down to the 17 players who will be playing on the team. We felt this is the group that will give us our best chance to be successful and I like the make-up of our team. There is a good mix of skill, skating, character, toughness and size.”

B’s Join Mass Select League
Start Play this Fall at 18U & 16U Levels

MARLBORO, MA-The Junior Bruins got great news a couple weeks back as they were invited to and accepted entry into the Mass. Select League at the 18U and 16U level. The Little Bruins, the program’s split season team, will participate in the 18U division while the Junior Bruins 16U (full season) team will participate at the 16U level.

The league schedule consists of 14-15 games (exact number of games is TBD but it is in that range) at both the 18U and 16U level. The league also plays an unbalanced schedule meaning the stronger teams in the league, like the B’s, will play the vast majority of their games against other strong teams.

While the Mass Select League (MSL), at the 18U and 16U levels are a split season league, the 16U B’s will participate. They will play their fall MSL schedule and then play the bulk of their United States Premier League Schedule (USPHL) during the winter months in addition to the top tournaments and showcases throughout the fall and winter.

This gives the Junior Bruins 16U team a schedule that no other program or team can offer in all of New England. In addition to their 3 hours of practice ice each week they now have a game schedule that is heavy with local games, limited travel and against the best competition.

The team will participate in both the MSL and USPHL so their league schedules include the likes of the South Shore Kings, Islanders HC, Jersey Hitmen, Suffolk PAL, Selects Academy, Portland Jr. Pirates, NH Jr. Monarchs, Springfield Pics, Bay State Breakers, Rochester Stars, Providence Capitals, CT. Yankees, Valley Jr. Warriors, GBL Bruins, Neponset Valley River Rats, Dual State Huskies, Springfield Rifles, SS Dynamos, RI Saints, Eastern MA Senators, Bulldog Selects, NS Wings and the 495 Stars.

The 16U’s will also play in tournaments such as the Labor Day invitational at NESC, BJB Shootout at NESC, the Beantown Fall Classic at Exeter, NH and a tournament in Chicago or Detroit to play the elite teams from the mid west and west such as the Chicago Fury, St. Louis Blues, Dallas Stars, Colorado Thunderbirds, LA Jr. Kings, Little Caesar’s, Honeybaked and Belle Tire to name a few. There may be another tournament/showcase added as well, but, with the aforementioned league and tournament schedule the 16U B’s will play a schedule that no one else can offer.

“This is adding 14-15 games to our schedule, local games that cuts down on the travel we had this past season, with strong teams that we will see at the state tournament in November as well,” coach Topher Bevis commented. “We had a great schedule lined up for the 2013-2014 season but now we have a better one. We are thrilled to be a part of the league.”

The Little Bruins, whose season currently ends at the same time as their MSL partners, will now add a strong league schedule to thier tournament and showcase schedule.

The Little Bruins schedule, for the 2013 fall season, will start with training camp in late August. They will participate in the top tournaments in the greater Boston area such as the Labor Day Invitational at NESC, BJB Shootout at NESC and the

buy flagyl

Beantown Fall Classic at Exeter, NH. They will supplement those three tournaments, and potentially one other, with their league schedule against other top teams such as the Neponset Valley River Rats, GBL Bruins, Cape Cod Whalers, Eastern MA Senators and the SS Dynamos to name a few.

“We feel this gives our players the absolute best schedule there is in the fall,” Little B’s GM Peter Masters commented. “The players who are at a high school or prep school and need to supplement their winter season with a strong fall option will continue to be able to do so with our Little Bruins team. Anytime we can upgrade our schedule we are going to do so an this offers our players the best schedule, competition and exposure for our players. It adds no additional travel to our schedule and the players won’t miss any school so it will work out very well. We are thrilled to be a part of the Mass. Select League.”

Player Who Best Typifies a Bruin Honors Former Star

MARLBORO, MA-The Junior Bruins banquet is around the corner and for the first time the B’s will hand out a new piece of hardware. We are proud to announce the Greg M. Mauldin Award that will be given annually to the player in the Bruins program who best typifies what a Junior Bruin represents: Excellence, Leadership, Pride, Loyalty and Work Ethic.

The award is named after one of the Bruins greats-Greg Mauldin. Mauldin, who is currently playing in Switzerland for Fribourg-Gotteron in the Swiss A League, grew up in Holliston, MA and played his youth hockey for the Minuteman Flames. Despite being a local player, the B’s had yet to organize summer teams at the youth level, and did not know who he was till he showed up at our open tryouts in 2000.

He showed up after being cut from the Walpole Stars (EJHL) and Greg earned a position on our Midget team (Little Bruins) after a great try-out. Greg made quick work of the Midget league and led the team in scoring. He was then bumped up to our EJHL team. His development and his star continued to soar. He ended up as a leading scorer and top player on the team ad in the league despite being cut by another team in the league and starting the season with the midget team.

He then went on to capture a boatload of awards during the 2000-01 season. He was team captain, leading scorer, league all-star and league MVP to name a few. Greg was one of the most sought after recruits in the east during the summer of 2000. It was during that time that Greg accepted a full scholarship to U-Mass Amherst.

When he was offered a spot in our program, his father, the late Richard Mauldin, had just a few words to share. “When I spoke viagra to Greg’s Dad,” coach Peter Masters remembers, “he didn’t want guarantee’s of ice time, didn’t want to know who his kid would play with, didn’t ask what we could “do” for him. He simply thanked us for the opportunity and promised that his son would work hard.”

“Looking back now it is refreshing to remember what a great attitude Mr.Mauldin had and we wish we saw more of that. He knew nothing would be given to Greg and that he was grateful for the opportunity and anything that Greg accomplished in his hockey career would be earned. If he came up short and didn’t reach some of his goals, he wouldn’t blame coaches, line mates or anyone else. Mr. Mauldin, along with his wife, did a great job with Greg and a big reason that Greg is as successful as he is, is because he had great parents who instilled in him a work ethic that is second to none.”

That work ethic was evident early on. When he started to have success on the big stage his commitment to excellence and that work ethic grew. He took a job at NESC so that he would have access to the rink whenever he wanted and he would work the early and late shifts so that, if there were an empty sheet of ice, he would jump on ice and shoot thousands of pucks. He put a small mattress in one of the locker rooms in the summer and would at times spend the night sleeping at the rink so he could wake up early, throw his skates on and get an on ice workout in before the rinks were rented and filled.

Greg was a talented player, but, through his work ethic, drive and determination was able to lift his game to a level that was above his God given talent. He is an example that hockey players are not born great. There were hundreds, thousands even, of players who had more talent than he but never got close to the level that Greg did because he “wanted it” more.

While he was at U-Mass, they had their best seasons since joining Hockey East. His play at the college level earned him a professional contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets and he made his NHL debut in the spring of 2004. He has played at the NHL level with the aforementioned Blue Jackets, New York Islanders and Colorado Avalanche. His play this season in Europe earned him a spot at the prestigious Spengler Cup.

Greg’s leadership was evident as a teenager while playing for our Little Bruins and EJHL team. He led by example, played the game the “right way” and always put the team first. He took pride in being a Junior Bruin and in the decade plus that he has been a pro he has come back to spend time coaching our summer tournament teams and working at our camps.

“Greg has made a lot of money as a pro and he obviously doesn’t need the money he makes while coaching one of our summer teams for a weekend or at a camp of ours,” Chris Masters commented. “Yet, anytime we call and ask him to help out, he is always there for us. I don’t know if the kids he coaches know how lucky they are to have Greg with them, even if it is just for a weekend or at a camp.”

“Greg is one of the players we talk about to players even today. His is a great story and if more had the commitment to excellence, leadership, pride, loyalty and work ethic that he did, more would reach their hockey goals. He is a great player, one of the best to ever wear and Junior Bruins jersey, and is a remarkable person. We are thrilled to be able to honor him with an award that we feel is the highest honor we can bestow upon a player in our program each year,” Peter Masters follows up.

The inaugural recipient of the Greg M. Mauldin Award will be announced at the 2013 Junior Bruins banquet on Monday, March 11th. We will also recognize the recipient of the 2012 Thomas C. Federico Memorial Award at the banquet in addition to the award winners from each of our teams from this past season.

We will offer a similar program for those going to Europe so we hope that the potential cost of a trip to Europe will not dissuade you from coming to the ID skate if there is an interest in this incredible opportunity and experience.

is a unique experience and getting to see both Sweden and Finland allows the players and families to experience two cultures, cities and countries that they may never get a chance to see,” Program Director Chris Masters commented.

2000 World Selects Invitational

The team will fly to Italy (most likely Milan) and then travel to Bolzano. This tournament will feature world class competition in one of the most beautiful parts of the world. Bolzano is a city and the capital of South Tyrol, a province in northern Italy that has a strong agricultural background (wine, fruit and dairy).

The settlement was built by the Romans after the area’s conquest by general Nero in 15 BC. Bolzano has been an important trading point since its elevation to a town on June 24, 1190 by bishop Konrad of Trient, due to its location in between the two major cities of Venice and Augsburg. World famous Lake Como is just 100 miles from Bolzano so a quick trip to visit Lake Como or extending your trip to include additional sightseeing is an option as well.

The tournament field will include: CSKA, Czech Selects, AK BARS Siberia, HC Dynamo Moscow, Sweden Selects, Slacia Slovakia Selects, Finalnd Selects, Jungadler Manheim (Germany), Spartak-Moscow, Pro Hockey Canada, Tyrol Selects (Italy).

“Those who have been to Bolzano in the past can’t say enough good things about the trip, the people, the food, the hockey and the history and beauty of the region,” Masters continued. “We are excited to make the trip a reality and will begin with our ID skate on the 16th at NESC.”
